Interesting football weekend in new season.
This weekend both Bundesliga and Erste Liga started. On Friday (24.07.) was the first round of Erste Liga (2nd division). This year will be very interesting because with Austria Klagenfurt and Austria Salzburg two traditional teams are back in professional football. Additional are with Wacker Innsbruck, LASK Linz, St. Pölten or Austria Lustenau other interesting teams in this league.
SKN St. Pölten - Austria Salzburg
Most interesting game in first round was certainly SKN St. Pölten against Austria Salzburg. 10 years after the last game in the Bundesliga, the Violets are back. So around 1500 supporters (+6x Saarbrücken (Clique Canaille, Boys SB) travelled to Lower Austria. All in all were around 5300 spectators in the stadium (good number for 2nd division). The homeside with the „Wolfbrigade“ had a small tifo and a mourning minute for a deceased member at the beginning. In the away end Tough Guys Salzburg made a intro with violet and white cards printed with clubs name. While around 50 persons support on the home side, Salzburg had around 1000 active supporters. So no question who was louder. On the pitch was the game balanced and the promoted guests showed a combative performance (game ended 2:2).
Austria Lustenau – Wiener Neustadt
LASK Linz – FAC
Sturm - Admira
On Saturday (25.07.) the first Bundesliga started. From a fan view the most interesting games were Sturm Graz – Admira and Rapid Wien – SV Ried. Rapid made a season opening corteo through the Prater and had a action for their „Weststadion“ (they want this name for their new stadium instead of „Allianz Stadion“). Sturm had a intro for their 50 years anniversary in the Bundesliga.
Rapid Wien – SV Ried
Wacker Innsbruck – Kapfenberg
Austria Klagenfurt – FC Liefering
