Germany: Chaos in Lower Rhine Cup!
Sold-out stadium in Lower Rhine Cup semi-final, match between two big rivals.
Each year, regional Cups are held in each State in Germany to determine which armature Club is Qualified for the big German Cup, where they play against big 1st and 2nd Division Clubs. MSV Duisburg (3rd Division) and Rot Weiss Essen (4th Division) have made it to the Semi-Finals of the Niederrheinpokal (West German Region), two big Rivals who have not played against each other in many years. Over 3.000 cops were on duty on this match.
It was considered one of the most corrupt games in German football. The match was interrupted for about 30 minutes because Rot Weiss Essen Hooligans tried to storm the pitch. About 400 Cops came onto the pitch to hold them back.
The match went into overtime and penalty shootout, where MSV Duisburg won 4:1.
