Bus driver killed by thrown brick

A bus driver has died following a violent attack on a group of basketball fans in Italy. According to reports from local media, unidentified assailants hurled stones and other objects at a bus carrying supporters of the Pistoia Basket second-division team on Sunday evening.

The bus was returning from an away game in the city of Rieti when a brick broke through the windshield, fatally striking a man seated in the front next to the driver. Authorities said the vehicle had initially been escorted by police after leaving the arena, but the attack occurred shortly after the escort departed, along a state road outside the city.

Italian news agency Ansa reported that around a dozen fans of the home team, Real Sebastiani Rieti, were questioned by police in connection with the incident. Early findings suggest that the attackers had hidden in a roadside ditch and launched the objects from there.

The investigation into the fatal assault is ongoing as authorities search for those responsible.
